Eat your heart out, Yu Gi

I have never been into the whole Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh!, trading card games. I always thought it was for little kids with too much of mommy's money to waste. Previews of the game on PS3's Network intrigued us. We figured, you get the camera with it, so why not give it a try.
The strategy it takes is amazing. The board is comprized of 9 squares (called fileds). Each field has an element assigned to it (water, fire, earth, wood, and Biolithe/metal). If you summon a creature to a field with a matching element (Wood Archer on a Wood field) the creature gains bonus health points. Place it on an opposite field (Wood Elf on Earth field) the character loses health points. There a summon cards and magic cards. All of which beautifully come to life when played.
The entire game can easily be changed by playing one card. Whether it is a spell card (like fieldquake which flips over the fields on the game board which can cause a Wood archer to lose 4 Health points and die because the Wood field she is standing on has been flipped to an Earth field) or a summon card (like a God card which does damage to all enimes on the board). Best of all the game jsut gets better, the more cards you get, the more players you meet. And gameplay is never the same twice.
And now everytime I go to target and see those cards, it is almost like being a kid again, craving the new toy and begging mom to get it.
All in all the most innovative game I have played in awhile.

Judgement For The Gamer

Reviewed by Liquidd on March 16, 2008  |  report this review

Sony continues to find new ways to implement the use of the Eye Toy peripheral and seem to have done a good job with "Eye Of Judgement". The game is part card battle (real cards) and part strategy and can be played on or off line. The innovative use of the Eye Toy to scan a card and then bring a character to life on screen to battle is quite fun to see and an ingenious method to integrate the Eye Toy into this cool title game.

The game is not without it's faults, of course (best played in a dim lit room), but it's positives outweigh it's negatives. If you already have an Eye Toy I recommend renting this title. If you don't have an Eye Toy, I recommend trading for the full package deal of this game. And if you're a strategy gamer looking fo a uniquely different way to play a game, buy this title.

Happy Gaming!
