Announced in late 1999 from Sony Music Entertainment, L'Arc-en-Ciel was scheduled to be the first PlayStation 2 music editing tool not unlike the MTV Music Generator series. Its title, also known as Laruku, shares that of the popular Japanese rock band that it's based on, and was to feature several hits songs from the band in addition to some original recordings. Much like the fate that several other "year-one" PS2 titles met, however, L'Arc-en-Ciel was eventually cancelled before publisher Sony Music even found a developer.
