from my experience on call of duty 4 beta was the best i've played untill the game came out. i have found out the the beta tied up with gears of war (the most played game on xbox live) for #1 most game played game on xbox live. I would suggest this game to any one that loves shooter or just even modern day weapons. also i want to know if anyone else thinks that halo is nothing to call of duty 4 let me know. And if you dont even think you will like it just try it a know you will like it trust me. FAVORITE GAME SO FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the best game on the Xbox 360 so far. It probably will be for a while, untill a 5th one comes out. Whoever has Halo 3 instead of this is retarted. First off, this game has the best graphics I have ever seen. The storyline is by far the best and most thrilling in a video game. Online play is incredible, and ranking system actually makes sense. Nothing is really nooby in this game except for the shotgun (which nobody uses unlike Halo). This is a must have game.

I am a HUGE fan of the COD series, and this is by far the best one they've ever made. I was still playing COD2 for the 360 the day before COD4 came out. The campaign mode is seriously intense, with your run and gun missions, and your stealthy sneak around missions, this game has everything. And that's without even mentioning the multiplayer. Everything runs flawlessly. The guns are all balanced, the ranking system acutally works (unlike Halos) and you can see how close you are to ranking up. And with the new addition of perks, nothing can top this game. Easily the best game of all-time.

Modernized for all the Better

Reviewed by XGreenGorillaX on November 14, 2007  |  report this review

Was the transition to modern warfare a good idea? I say... YES! The transition to modern warfare was the spice the series needed. This game is amazing, unlike its predecessors, it kept me playing I could not put that controller down until I completed every mission. The graphics are amazing! The game runs off the same graphics engine as the other two but somehow the graphics are a lot better. To the visuals, the character models, and the weapons everything looks magnificent. Now let us stray from the graphics and head to the level design. The design is awesome. All the levels are diverse and unique unlike its predecessors which were very repetitive. Now lets head to multiplayer. The multiplayer is easily up there with Halo 3. A new thing that has been added to the multiplayer is a feature that allows you to create a custom class that can be used online. CoD for is an amazing that gets almost everything right. The problems are that the single player has a low replay value, and there is no co-op. If I could put four-and-a-half I would, but it won't let me. The transition to modernize the series was a great idea which allowed Infinity Ward that extra wiggle space to make a near perfect game.

WHAT DO YOU THINK: All of the previous Call of Duty games were based on WWII. Call of Duty 4 took a risk and made it modern. Do you think that was a smart move?

PLEASE POST YOUR ANSWER ON MY MESSAGE BOARD.

It offers and intensified gameplay for singplayer and multyplayer, if this game was 150.00 dallars id still buy it, the multiplayer offers ranks perks xp, weapon add ons and best of all create a class where you get to create your own class. Best graphics in any game ive seen on the xbox 360. ill never get bored of this game until the next call of duty comes out.

COD 4 has set the standard for how a war game should be. This game has to be one of the most intense games created. It literally will leave your heart pounding as you gear up and go to war.
The gameplay? One word, Addictive.
There is so much variety involved with this game which keeps the missions fresh. Snipers? Have you ever heard of any game accounting for distance, wind, and Coriolis force(Deflection of objects to the right due to the Earth's rotation)? AC-130 Gunner? Dude, definitely sweet and very accurate depiction. The storyline is much like the world today and you are thrown in the mix not really knowing the behind the scenes politics. Just doing the mission.
Oh yeah, the graphics are insane. A lot of realism in this one folks. Finally, the ending will blow your mind. Be sure not to turn it off before the end of the credits if you want a very pleasant surprise. The only game that can stand toe-to-toe with COD 4 would be Halo 3. And that's because the multiplayer for COD 4 is definitely no Halo multiplayer.
-Enjoy the game....I definitely did.

The best online shooter out.

Reviewed by Shaknbake on January 07, 2008  |  report this review

They say war is hell. Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare takes you to the very depths of Hades. The long-awaited COD4, IW's follow-up to the excellent Call of Duty 2, is a jarring, intense, and gripping take on war in the new millennia. The enemies are smarter, the weapons are deadlier, and the grenades all too plentiful. COD4 will shake loose your fillings and have you begging for more.

Infinity Ward was born out of the success of retelling some of the greatest battles in World War II. The company has become synonymous with the virtual beach at Normandy. So it was quite a gamble to break from the comfort zone of Nazi-occupied Europe and leap into present day. The gamble paid off. Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and every other military-based shooter has been put on notice. There is a new standard to judge this sub-genre and it is Call of Duty 4.

Multiplayer begins with a handful of pre-made classes, COD4 quickly opens up once you reach level 4. At this point, you can create your own class. As you gain levels, you'll earn access to new weapons, scopes, and perks. On top of this, you'll find dozens of challenges for each weapon, which open up further augmentation options. There are also more generic challenges, such as killing two people while in the air and scoring a certain number of headshots. All of this creates a robust challenge system that encourages gamers to keep COD4 in their system so they can continue to plug away online. It's like Pokemon with bloodsplatter -- gotta earn 'em all.

Perks are a nifty element that can make or break some players. Some perks give you new explosive options, such as an undermounted grenade launcher (AKA The N00b Tube), C4, or claymores. Most, though, enhance your skills. Deep Penetration allows your bullets to maintain more velocity through objects, making it easier to kill enemies through walls; UAV Jammer makes you invisible on radar when an enemy launches a satellite; Martyrdom lets you drop a grenade when you die so you can (hopefully) take your enemy with you. The various perks add interesting wrinkles to multiplayer and give gamers a sense of ownership of their character. Rather than just being a virtual meat sack, your created class has your own personal touch to it.

Amazing Online and Offline Experience.

Reviewed by mattg00013 on January 25, 2008  |  report this review

When Call of Duty 4 originally came out I thought it was going to be a very over-rated game cought"Halo3"cough, because it was based alot off of the online experience. While the campaign for the game is supposedly short I still have not yet had time to complete it myself because I have been having too much fun playing online. Call of Duty 4 is currently the best online experience for people with an Xbox 360. It’s a game I figured I would buy out of the bargain bin in a few months but ended up picking up for quite the bargain price the week after Christmas. It’s an amazing game, you won’t be disappointed. Truly an amazing experience when it comes to war games which generally are not my type of games. So let’s talk a bit about the game itself, in single player you are playing Modern Warfare, battling in the Middle East. It has some of the most amazing graphics I have seen, Uncharted is still the besting that category though. With online play you will jump right in going up against level 50 players when you have yet to even rank one level. Don’t worry about that though, it may take you a few rounds to get used to it but once you do you will be making the level 50 players look like fools, at least I do. Once you rank up a bit you will unlock more versions of online play, the ability to customize your character and choose class/guns, etc. So that every round when you start you has the perfect set up for you. It’s the most realistic war game I have ever played, its creepy in ways, first time I got killed I actually jumped away from the screen, and it’s that good.

COD 4

Whether you've ever played a FPS (first-person-shooter) or not you'll find it hard to fault this game. The story play is some what short, but interlaced with pleasant video footage of your targets and audio briefing during load times so as to avoid those black holes of inactivity. Once played through and finished you'll find the game is no where close to being played out. You have the arcade mode which is fun in both full challenge mode, you accumulate points based on kills, hit locations and hit streaks, which further modify your points, fun challenges for friends or yourself. Then you step up to the REAL plate. You log into xbox live, grab your frags and bring a helmet 'cause your gonna need it. Everything that makes the game play GREAT, is only further heightened playing online with friends and strangers alike. As you play your actions govern the amount of experience you gain in each match. Experience unlocks PERKS, which is one of my favourite things about the online play. You can customize your character class to a degree to help level or unbalance, you hope, the playing field ultimately allowing you and your team to be victorious. Levels are not a judge of your skill however so don't be discouraged going up against the kids who never sleep. They die too.

This game tops my scales as easily one of the three best games available period right now.
The variables that blow Halo 3 away, like the weapon types and the sheer range you can cover, the ability to sprint is VERY welcome over the tedious same speed running you get in the Halo's, the maps and the necessary NEED to use cover, the need to co-operatively play to complete and win matches is far better than the narrower field of options you get playing Halo 3. There is something to be said for winning a fire fight, not because you have more shield left, but because you were the better shot. Halo's exp. accumulation is faulty and doesn't do a fair enough job all the way around.

Five star double thumbed jubilation for COD 4!!

Despite the fact that the campaign was extremely short, it was the best one that I have ever played. It was very difficult, but that is good, and it really feels like you're in the middle of war with great graphics, sounds and environments.
Multiplayer is exceptional, combining RPG style concepts with intense shooters. With cool modes like Sabotage and Hardcore, multiplayer can get extremely addicting on more than 13 insane maps.

Call of Duty 4 OWNS

Reviewed by lyanhead on February 06, 2008  |  report this review

First of all, the single player mode is very good. It's entertaining the entire time and the battles are intense. My favorite mission is the sniper one. In this mission you have to carefully sneek past enemy patrols in order to assassinate someone. You follow your CPU partner as he gives you very helpful orders. Once you assassinate your target, all hell breaks loose. You find yourself running to the evacuation point while fighting off like fifty enemies. It's very fun to constantly pop heads left and right. Another mission that stands out is the one where your shooting down on enemies from a chopper using night vision. It looks very realistic, and you'll have a blast bombing or gunning down little white, running enemies. It's also fun to toy with them. Try dropping a bomb in front of one and watch him haul ass in the opposite direction. The online multiplayer is the best part about COD4. With plenty of game types and customizable weapons and skills; it's bound to have your style of gameplay. And of course gunning down other people online is very fun, but watch out for those campers. The more you play, the more xp you'll get which earns you more perks. The only bad thing about the online multiplayer is that you can't have a friend play with you on the same consel. Despite that, this game is probably the best first person shooter on the 360, yes even better than Halo 3.

Call of Duty 4 was a great game. It was certainly good considering the campaign. I've never played a better, more realistic story mode in my life. The plot is very well planned out and I loved it. Like Halo after you beat it on regular, easy, or hardened, you haven't played the real game until you tried Veteran. I beat Veteran and I've never played a game with so much intense gameplay. It's graphics are detailed, and Veteran is very realistic.
The online part of the game is good and is real You can't just run out and pwn like in Halo. You need to plan out strategies with your team and pick the right gun for the right map. Online will keep you enterained, but for me it got boring.

Online play is excellent, campaign is almost impossible on Veteran, Hardened is just that, Regular is for people who have played Halo 3 or other shooters that have different controls, and Easy is for people that haven't played a shooter before... Gears of War has the most similar controls to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, so if you are familiar with Gears of War's controls, you will be pretty familiar in the beginning to Call of Duty's controls. Another nice thing about online multi player is Prestige, which you obtain after level 55. Few things in this game are untrue in life to the game. Forget HALO. If you like realistic, modern combat this game fills the bill.

The weapons are all REAL, and carried by many armed forces throughout the world. The physics are REAL for the most part. Sometimes you can jump off of stuff that should probably kill you, but it's all good.

The perk system is amazing and adds a whole new spin on the FPS genre. For example, you have 3 perk slots and about 5 to 9 choices for each slot. You have a blue, red, and yellow perk. Say for your red perk you are new to the game and you die alot, you could turn Juggernaut on, which gives you more health. (Use caution tho, you will get whined at pretty much every match.) But, as you progress thru the game and get more matches under your belt you might notice you are getting killed less and decide you really would like to reload faster, take off Juggernaut and replace it with Sleight of Hand. Now you have regular health, but you can reload twice as fast. So as you can see, replacing each perk with something else can help you with one aspect, but limits you on others.

All in all, it's just like with any game, if you are unsure about it, go rent it. As for me, this game will be in my lineup for eternity.

Pure awesome!

(another review from my homepgae blog) To start, this is THE one MUST HAVE for the 360 console. What Infinity Ward, the designers of CoD, did to this from CoD2 was astounding, yet still the quality of what they are know for! I don’t mention CoD3 because that one was NOT done by Infinity Ward and is evident in its play style. I’m glad Activision realized their mistake and brought them back for this 4th installment. This is the best game I’ve played for the 360 do date! Everything flows smooth in it and the replay value is high! Voice acting- great, single player-superb, visuals-beautiful, multiplayer-realistic, addicting, and fun! From these reviews you will see I don’t get too technical, I hate these old farts who review games and get all over-the-top on you. I’ll do my best to keep it short, sweet, and to the point. The biggest thing about this game is its multiplayer fun. Its way more realistic then Halo 3 is and you tend to find less 8 year olds playing this as you will in your Halo matches online. Also for the simple fact your earn goodies the more you play. This, to an old school RPG freak such as myself is a blessing! I mean having to work to acquire a certain gun, or be able to better your aim, damage, or any number of perks this game offers give your that sense of achievement! Something I felt Halo was missing and something that I felt has been needed in these kind of games, I thank Rainbow 6 Lockdown for the original xbox for starting down that path. All being said, BUY THIS game, even at full price of $60 its so worth it!

Best FPS Ever!

First of all, The entire CoD series is simply the best! The single player is very difficult on veteran and the last mission still has me stumped. The online play is very unique, challenges are very fun to try to complete.

Best Shooter On the Market Today

Call of Duty 4 seemed to go beyond Infinity Ward's expectations. Except, concerncing how quickly and poorly Call of Duty 3 was done, what should we have expected? We needed a game as good as this in order to get back into the Call of Duty series.

The campaign itself is a ton of fun. The multiplayer is even more fun I think, and the graphics and gameplay are amazing.

My favorite would have to be the multiplayer, because it is so indepth when it comes to the perks, the weapons and weapon classes, and the prestige mode. All of this is enjoyable, because you have to actually do well in order to get better weapons and abilities. That is why I prefer this game over Halo 3. Halo 3's multiplayer is so boring, and it's the same thing over and over and over again. If you lose a match in Halo, your rank goes down. However in CoD 4 it can only go up.

I would definately recommend CoD 4 to any gamer, whether they're serious or if this is their first FPS.

The graphics are Excelent. This game is a little short but not too short. The missions are really fun and good looking. You play as two people, a U.S Marine and a member of the British S.A.S. There are no tank missions in this CoD but you do get to operate the guns in a gunship. I highly recamend this game if you like FPS or any kind of war game.

This game is head and shoulders above call of duty 3. The game is set in modern warfare, hence the title, which is a breath of life for shooters, considering most of them are based in WWII. The graphics are stunning. It maximazes the 360 power to the fullest. The campaign is too short considering how good it is, but it's the multiplayer where COD4 really shines. It sort of combines RPG elements with FPS elements. As you kill people and other things, you get experience points, where you can level up and achieve higher ranks. As you level up, you can unlock new weapons. You can unlock new additions to weapons by completing certain goals such as 25 headshots. It's very addicting, and makes you want to play more, if you can bare all the little kids screaming gibberish into the headsets. But that's why muting is a god-giving gift to us all.
